*Green Hiking Etiquette Campaign is organised in collaboration with Environmental Protection
Department (EPD) to promote “The Leave No Trace Seven Principle” and educate the public to protect
the nature.

We are now recruiting Green Ambassadors and Leaders to work at the popular hiking trails as below:
1. Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail (Near Allway Gardens/Hong Kong Adventist Hospital, Tsuen Wan)
2. Devil’s Peak, Yau Tong (Near W20, Wilson Trail Section 3)
Date: From July, 2021 (Every Sat and Sun)
Duration：8am-4pm

*The positions are time-limited job opportunities under the “Green Employment Scheme” launched by

accredit Bachelor Degree in Hong Kong or equivalent qualification. Green Ambassadors should attain
Level 2 in 5 subjects (including Chinese and English) in the HKDSE or Grade E in 5 subjects (including
Chinese and English) in the HKCEE or equivalent qualification.

All Green Ambassadors and Leaders should attend the briefing session. Notification will be sent by email.

Participants would enjoy the beautiful scenery in the countryside and spend an energetic weekend, while practicing “Green Hiking Etiquettes” and comprehending the unique environment in Hong Kong. To introduce “Leave No Trace” and other green hiking tips, participants may learn more about how and why to protect our for the sake of the future generation, both locally and globally.

Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail is selected in the Charity Hike this year. It is not only an adventurous hiking trail but also an old trading route linking two settlements (Yuen Long & Tsuen Wan).  The journey is full of natural sceneries and historical features. Following the route with online supporting materials, participants would wander up and down along nature trail from Chai Wan Kok to Yuen Long. The hilltop Lookout at Shek Lung Kung will be soon approached. With 180 degree view of Hong Kong Island, Tsing Yi and Lantau, an unobstructed view of Tsing Ma Bridge and Victoria Harbour is unforgettable.

Due to the public gathering limit, we could not take part in the launching ceremony with hundreds of participants as in the previous years. Therefore the event period extends to 17 days, from 26 March to 11 April 2021.

A vast amount of materials including marquees, furniture and even unsold goods are left behind and, ultimately, sent to the landfills right after the LNY fair. This is not only a big waste but also putting a heavy burden on landfills. In light of this, Green Sense will introduce a series of waste management and recycling measures in the Tsuen Wan LNY fair, so as to promote the concept of “waste reduction at source”,  “clean recycling” and “resources sharing”, as well as to enhance the green awareness of the public and merchants.

ECC Green Lunar New Year (LNY) Fair (Tsuen Wan)

Project 1 – Shopping Bags Sharing

Objectives

Often, LNY fair ended up with a vast amount of waste, including plastic bags. Although the implementation of plastic bag levy has resulted in less use of bags, the prevalence of non-woven bags (also known as environmentally friendly bags), which are made of plastic but often reused, has dropped people’s guard. Therefore, people might accumulate lots of shopping bags at home. In order to promote reusing, recycling and the BYOB culture, we are collecting spare shopping bags from the public to be placed at the Shopping Bags Sharing Stations at the Tsuen Wan LNY Fair for all to use.

We are now inviting organizations and institutions to collect clean shopping bags of any kind and material (e g. non-woven fabric or nylon). We will provide an A3-sized poster (left) to be placed at the point of collection. Participating organizations will receive an E-certificate of Appreciation.

Collection period: 8th – 19th Jan 2018

Green LNY Fair Ambassadors

Green Sense will need lots of volunteers to help with a series of waste management and recycling measures in the Tsuen Wan LNY fair, so as to promote the concept of “waste reduction at source”,  “clean recycling” and “resources sharing”, as well as to enhance the green awareness of the public and merchants.

Main duties:

Recycling shopping bags, promoting waste reduction at festivals, promoting the GSL Programme, assisting in the recycling and the donation of goods, and educating the public on clean recycling

Period: 10th – 16th Feb 2018

LNY freecycle

At the end of each year’s LNY fair, a vast amount of materials including marquees, furniture and even unsold goods are left behind and, ultimately, sent to the landfills.

That is why we are setting up a Resources Sharing Area. At the end of the Fair, stall operators who have left materials and goods can carry them to the Sharing Area for donation.

At a designated time period, citizens can come and claim goods they need at the Sharing Area. Not only are the stress on our landfills relieved, but the sense of community and mutual help can also be strengthened.

 

Green Stall Label (GSL) programme

1st Dec 2017 was the day of Tsuen Wan LNY fair stall auction day. Green Sense has sent our representatives to explain our programme and invite them to participate. Stall operators who pledge to carry out at least two of the following green measures will receive a special ‘Green Stall’ signboard.

1. Reduce waste and carry out clean recycling.

2. Do not willingly provide shopping or plastic bags.

3. Provide discounts to customers who use their own eating utensils.

4. At the end of the fair, take away as many unsold goods and reuse as many materials as possible.

5. Carry unsold goods and reusable materials to the Resources Sharing Area.

We hope that you can support stalls with green stall labels while enjoying your time in the Tsuen Wan LNY fair.

 

Shopping Bags Sharing

To reduce the use of plastic bags, we will set up several Shopping Bags Sharing Stations at the Fair for shoppers to use.

We are collecting reusable shopping bags (e.g. those made of non-woven fabric or nylon) from the public in January. Through the collection of bags and their sharing at the LNY Fair, we hope to promote the green concepts of reusing and recycling, as well as the Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) culture.
